Days 13 & 14

Rollercoaster on the Croatian coast road

When leaving Buzet, I asked the hotelkeeper:
“What about the road ahead”
“Well,, you’ll have to climb a while, but up there is a tunnel, so you don’t have to go all the way over the pass”
“Tunnel? Can I pass it with my bicycle?”
“Sure! No problem!”
BULLSHIT!
After a 400m climb comes the tunnel, and this is just where the motorway begins.
I have no interest to climb another 400m, so I’ll better be smart. And, after a while, I stop an Italian van, whose driver agrees to take me and my bike to the other side of the 5km long tunnel.

There I cycle down to the coast road, which I will follow for the next 600 km or so..

As I thought, civilisation got me back. Zillions of sunbathing tourist, heavily crowded roads, quite dangerous. I  pass Rijeka as fast as possible and stop for the night in Novi Vinodolski.

Next morning early start for a great day along the magnificent coast road. It is so beautiful, that I do not really care that it goes up and down all the time. There is little traffic and the road climbs sometimes up to 350m  giving a great view on the sea.

So far, yesterday was the day with the highest elevation: 1268m climbing, more than in the Alps
