In Mexico City I saw ruins from Aztec pyramids, but these are merely a pile of stones, and you need quite some imagination to guess what they might have been. So I did not even talk about it.

But Monte Alban is different. Its history starts some 1000 years BC, making it one of the earliest ones in Mesoamerica. Its most brilliant time was around 200-600 AD. Than, as many cultures in today's Mexico, it disappeared mysteriously.

The site is atop of a levelled mountain ridge near Oaxaca. Around a big 200 x 300 meters main square are pyramids, temples and palaces, all well restored and in good condition. There are also some Tumuli who have not been opened yet. In the middle of the square are 3 pyramids.

While I was sitting there, thinking of the transience of all the things, I remembered the tree of Tule, whom of I spoke to you a few days ago. He dates from the same period, but he is still alive...
